Perth International Jazz Festival Ft. Grievous Bodily Calm + Soft West

Continue celebrate Perth International Jazz Festival final night at The Bird!

Soft West | 7pm - 8pm
Soft West was formed in 2016 by local jazz musicians and recent WAAPA graduates Brodie Stewart (keys), Alistair Peel (bass), Marc Osborne (sax), Vaughan Jameson (guitar), and Daniel Harrison (drums). The group came together to explore and develop each others compositions for solo projects and have been performing together ever since. After their award-winning performance at the 2017 Bucharest International Jazz Competition, Soft West have continued to hone their collective improvisational and compositional voice, which has culminated in their debut album "Australiana Melodrama" which was released in September of this year.

Espousing an improvisational synergy between the musicians, Soft West create music that can be both reflective and dynamic at any moment.

Grievous Bodily Calm | 9pm - 10pm
Grievous Bodily Calm are a beat music band from Perth, Western Australia. The quintet combines IDM, Jazz-Fusion, Rock, Hip Hop, and experimental improvisation to produce unique compositions. Since forming in late 2016 the band have had quick success, performing at Falls Festival, Gizzfest, Camp Doogs and supporting artists including Winston Surfshirt, Jordan Rakei, Sex on Toast and Donny Benet. In September 2017 the band released their debut album ‘Thought Tapes Live’ – a seven track live album capturing the audience’s active engagement with their adventurous constructions. The band has spent the early part of 2018 recording their debut studio album, ‘Repel’, including the single ‘Footwork’.

After a sold out single launch, the band are gearing up for the release of ‘Repel’ and supports for the likes of The Cat Empire in the latter part of 2018.
