Red Bull Music Academy completes a lap of the mainland capitals this October and November, with Detroit ghetto-tech pioneer DJ Godfather at the controls. Having held down as a lecturer when RBMA hit London in 2002, and taken Detroit’s Red Bull Thre3style turntablism crown in 2013, the legendary producer and performer finally hits Australia under the banner of RBMA’s Club Night series.

Godfather’s discography runs as deep as his influence. DJing at 15, by 18 he was dropping his first solo release – Work Dat on his own Twilight 76 Records in 1996. His fusion of Detroit techno with Miami bass was the genesis of the ghetto tech sound, a resolutely underground form of relentless bass music which he’s driven for close to two decades since. That sound has taken him out of Detroit and around the world, off the back of countless releases across his four labels, excursions through house and juke, and remix duties for artists as varied as Fatboy Slim, Dizzee Rascal and Westbam.
